Public Sector Business Development Intern | Zayo
The Tone:

Zayo’s expansive 141,000-mile network spans North America and Europe, featuring extensive metro connectivity to thousands of buildings and data centers. The company offers a comprehensive suite of communications infrastructure solutions, including dark fiber, private data networks, wavelengths, Ethernet, and dedicated Internet access. This role offers the intern a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the telecommunications infrastructure industry while directly contributing to Zayo’s growth within the critical government segment. You will work closely with sales and development teams, identifying and pursuing strategic opportunities that fuel innovation and digital transformation across public sector entities.
The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Pay: $20–$22 hourly
• Mission: Identify and pursue strategic growth opportunities within the government sector to expand Zayo’s reach and impact.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Funding & Grant Analysis: Monitor and analyze federal and state funding opportunities relevant to telecommunications infrastructure, and proactively identify eligible grant opportunities.
• Proposal Development Support: Provide essential support in developing compelling proposals for government-funded connectivity projects.
• Tailored Solution Design: Help develop tailored connectivity solutions specifically designed to meet the unique needs of public sector clients.
• Business Development Support: Contribute to the creation of targeted prospect lists, focusing on new customers and priority segments, and support the preparation and execution of outbound campaign initiatives and broader sales efforts.
• Project Coordination: Assist in coordinating effectively with various cross-functional teams across Zayo’s organization to ensure seamless project execution and collaboration.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Completed sophomore year and currently enrolled in a degree or certificate-seeking program for the fall semester of 2026. Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Arts in Government, Political Science, or Public Administration (BPA).
• Experience: Not specified beyond academic enrollment and progress towards a degree.
• Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication, strong organizational skills, strong problem-solving capabilities, and excellent analytical and research skills.
• Bonus: A genuine interest in the telecommunications industry and network infrastructure, coupled with the ability to work effectively and adapt quickly, take initiative, and effectively integrate feedback.
