About the Role
This Psychiatric Office Assistant Internship Program is designed for individuals transitioning into healthcare careers or entry-level candidates, offering foundational exposure to medical office operations within Harmony United Psychiatric Care’s outpatient mental health clinics. Interns will gain practical skills and industry knowledge while supporting a team that provides comprehensive mental health services to adults, adolescents, and children.
What You’ll Do
• Learn and perform professional phone etiquette and patient scheduling
• Utilize Electronic Health Record (EHR) basics using MEDENT
• Manage patient check-in/check-out procedures and patient flow
• Practice professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality in healthcare
• Handle appointment scheduling and front desk duties including faxing, copying, and filing
• Gain understanding of psychiatric services offered and general medical terminology
• Receive an introduction to insurance billing and coding
• Ensure HIPAA compliance and patient privacy
• Perform other responsibilities pertinent to clinic operations through supervised hands-on practice

• Are 18 years of age or above
• Are a High School graduate
• Are able to commit a consistent schedule
• Are motivated to gain healthcare experience for career development
• Are able to pass a basic screening (e.g. background check)
• Are willing to abide by the drug-free workplace policy, including pre-joining drug screening and random drug testing
Role Highlights & Compensation
• This is a voluntary, unpaid internship program.
• Gain valuable, hands-on experience and training in a professional mental health care environment at no cost.
• Program Duration: 3 to 6 months (600 hours total)
• Flexible schedule, minimum 20 hours/week with 10 hours/day (Full office day)
• Located in Oviedo
• Upon successful completion of 600 hours, receive a Certificate of Completion detailing hours and skills acquired.
• Upon successful completion, receive a reference letter for employment or further education.
• Gain experience to include on professional resumes.
