What You’ll Actually Do
• Develop Skills: Acquire the necessary expertise to review, analyze, accept, and decline risks, ensuring profitability for Markel.
• Communicate Effectively: Interact with underwriting management, product line leaders, colleagues, data analysts, and both current and proposed producers.
• Execute Guidelines: Become familiar with and consistently apply underwriting guidelines, policies, and procedures.
• Explore Technology: Gain exposure to data analytics and digital technologies that are shaping the future of the insurance underwriting industry.
• Advance Career: Upon satisfactory completion of the training, become eligible for an underwriting position within the company.

The Must-Haves
• Background: College graduate as of June 2027, with strong academic performance (3.00 GPA minimum).
• Experience: No specific prior work experience required beyond being a college graduate; computer savvy with MS Office suite experience.
• Skills: Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills; ability to analyze complex problems and make sound recommendations; solid time management skills.
