Project Accountant 1 | State of Ohio
The Tone:
This is a full-time and part-time role at the Auditor of State, located in Bedford, OH, with travel to audit sites in Ohio’s Northeast Region. The Auditor of State’s office audits nearly 6,000 public offices across Ohio, ensuring fiscal accountability and transparency for taxpayers. This role contributes to the Local Government Services (LGS) Division, acting as a consulting and fiscal advisory group to local government agencies. As a Project Accountant, you will provide critical financial services such as forecasting, record reconstruction, and analysis, directly supporting the financial health of local governments.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Information Gathering: Gather necessary financial information, prepare work papers, and apply assigned local government services procedures and techniques to client accounts and records.
• Compliance Review: Review completed work with higher-level LGS employees to ensure compliance with local government services procedures and techniques adopted by the Auditor of State.
• Report Assistance: Give assistance in the preparation of local government services reports and other work products under the direction of higher-level LGS employees, including meeting with local government officials.
• Procedural Aid: Aid in the study and documentation of transaction cycles and accounting procedures, assisting clients in determining requirements of laws and regulations.
• System Familiarization: Prepare necessary working papers and schedules to increase familiarity with local government services programs, report format, and client accounting systems.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university (Accounting preferred) OR successful completion of at least 16 semester hours or equivalent in accounting or a related field beyond high school level.
• Experience: Possess at least three years’ experience in accounting or a related field. Travel to audit site work locations is required.
• Skills: Detail-oriented, organized, reliable, able to work under a time-budget structure, and capable of conveying information professionally and working well with people at all job levels. Effective oral and written communication skills are essential. Knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) is preferred.
