The Tone:
This is a full-time Associate role at Brown Edwards, a top 100 firm with approximately 450 professionals operating across the Virginia, West Virginia, and Tennessee regions. The company provides assurance, tax, and business advisory services to a diverse clientele, ranging from small companies to large corporations. This position is vital for supporting client service delivery by executing fundamental audit and tax assignments. Associates contribute to the firm’s unyielding commitment to excellence by ensuring accuracy and thoroughness in their work.

The TL;DR

• Type: Full-time
• Pay: $50000–$75000 yearly
• Team: Reports to more experienced accountants and all levels above the Associate.
• Mission: Execute basic audit, tax, or other assignments to support client service delivery and ensure accuracy.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Office software applications

What You’ll Actually Do
• Data Management: Import client data into workpaper files and post entries to working trial balances.
• Engagement Support: Take responsibility for assigned sections of engagements, escalating issues or concerns appropriately as they arise.
• Tax Preparation: Assist with preparing individual, partnership, corporate, and other tax returns, including supporting workpapers, schedules, and book-to-tax adjustments.
• Audit Procedures: Perform assigned audit procedures, assist with walkthroughs, testing, and prepare clear, well-documented workpapers.
• Financial Reporting: Draft basic financial statement components and supporting schedules as assigned.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting. This is an entry-level position.
• Experience: General experience with Microsoft Office software applications.
• Skills: Strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills; basic knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS), Statements on Standards for Accounting and Review Services (SSARS), and financial statement disclosures; basic knowledge of individual, partnership, and corporate tax laws.
• Bonus: Working toward CPA designation.
