Product Designer, Internship – US Government | Palantir Technologies
The Tone:
This is an internship at Palantir Technologies, based in the US. Palantir builds the world’s leading software for data-driven decisions and operations, empowering partners to develop lifesaving drugs, forecast supply chain disruptions, and locate missing children. This role is crucial for defining the human experience of using Palantir’s software, contributing to a shared product vision within a tight-knit design team that values trust, integrity, empathy, and growth. As an intern, you will play a direct role in creating simple, powerful, and effective user interfaces for complex analytical tasks.
The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Location: Hybrid, US-based
• Pay: $8500 monthly
• Team: Works on product teams with Designers, Product Managers, Developers, and Forward Deployed Engineers.
• Mission: Own end-to-end execution of real product features and refine and evolve the quality of Palantir products.
• Tech Stack: Figma, HTML, CSS, Javascript, Typescript
What You’ll Actually Do
• Feature Ownership: Work on product teams with minimal supervision to own the end-to-end execution of real product features.
• Design & Prototyping: Define early product concepts, flesh out high-level workflows and micro-interactions, and execute crisp visual designs using tools such as Figma.
• User Research: Conduct informal user research by visiting customer offices, interviewing users, and performing scripted usability tests and contextual inquiries, combining qualitative and quantitative data.
• Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner closely with product managers and forward deployed engineers to prototype and build out design ideas, treating them as integral partners in the development process.
• UX Consistency: Advocate for and create flexible, reusable UI components to ensure consistency across the software interface.
The Must-Haves
• Active US Security Clearance: Possess an active US Security clearance or be eligible and willing to obtain one.
• Education: Planning to graduate in 2028, with this being the final internship before graduation.
• Experience: A portfolio demonstrating at least one software interface design project.
• Skills: Proficiency in designing and prototyping tools like Figma; strong interaction and visual design capabilities; experience conducting user research; excellent collaboration and communication skills to convey and debate design rationale.
• Bonus: Familiarity with frontend technologies including HTML, CSS, Javascript, and Typescript; an iterative design process that incorporates feedback rapidly; high empathy and dedication to users; eagerness to solve hard, complex problems within data-dense interfaces.
