Plumbing Engineering Intern
Overall Responsibility:
The Plumbing Engineering Intern shall support Arora’s Plumbing Engineers and Designers in executing Arora’s mission of “Improving the quality of life by Rethinking Infrastructure” through this internship opportunity. The intern will directly support Arora’s licensed Plumbing Engineers and Designers in their everyday objective of meeting client needs. This role may also involve assisting in code analysis, drafting, fixture selection, calculations, and conducting surveys. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong communication skills, an analytical approach to problem-solving, a curiosity to learn, and a passion for plumbing system design.
Essential Functions
- Learn and apply the basic principles of plumbing engineering, including gravity and pressurized fluid flow, pump sizing, pipe sizing, and LEED criteria, to real-world projects.
- Support the plumbing engineering team in the development and delivery of high-quality engineering design documents to clients.
- Interface with other Arora disciplines, clients, business partners, and vendors.
- Attend client meetings to develop presentation and communication skills.
- Participate in project meetings with engineers, clients, and authorities having jurisdiction.
- Learn and develop basic engineering contract documents, including technical reports, drawings, specifications, and calculations.
- Learn and develop AutoCAD and Revit drafting skills.
- Assist in analyzing codes and client standards.
- Assist in preparing spreadsheet calculations.
- Utilize design principles from technical manuals, plumbing code, and LEED criteria.
- Assist in the selection and specification of plumbing fixtures.
- Gain an understanding of the QA/QC process and review procedures.
- Exercise responsible and ethical judgment in the execution of daily tasks.
- Perform additional functions as required by business needs.
Qualifications
Needed Skills:
- Genuine interest in developing real-world experience in the design of plumbing systems for buildings.
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret model building codes and design standards.
- General familiarity with AutoCAD and Revit computer-aided drafting software.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Bluebeam/Adobe software.
- Ability to analyze technical problems in a methodical and detail-oriented manner.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with team members in both in-person and virtual settings.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly in both verbal and written formats.
- Ability to create and maintain productive relationships with employees, clients, and vendors.
Education/Experience Minimum:
Currently enrolled in an Engineering or Engineering Technology undergraduate program at an accredited university, preferably in their junior year of study. Coursework in piping system related subjects is preferred.
Work Location
The candidate shall be located in the Chadds Ford, PA office. The job requirement is a minimum of four (Monday through Thursday) days in office, with Friday remote work at the option of the supervisor.
