Philanthropy Intern | Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center
The Tone:
This is an internship at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, located in Baton Rouge, LA. Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center is Louisiana’s leading cancer care organization, dedicated to improving survivorship and lessening the burden of cancer through comprehensive services and strategic hospital and physician partnerships. This role is a key part of the Office of Philanthropy team, offering an enthusiastic student the opportunity to significantly impact the future of philanthropy and gain invaluable career experience within a focused cancer care environment.

• Mission: This person supports the Baton Rouge fundraising program across special events, annual giving, major gifts, and grants, aiming to strengthen donor relationships, develop new partnerships, and ensure effective philanthropy communications and event support.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Research: Research individual, corporate, and institutional supporters to strengthen current relationships and develop new partnerships.
• Communications: Assist with the creative development of marketing and communications for all philanthropy programs, including website, social media, and mailings.
• Donor Engagement: Assist with donor cultivation, stewardship, and fundraising events and activities, including creative ways to recognize and thank donors.
• Database Management: Manage the donor database for all philanthropy programs, supporting donor research, prospecting, and stewardship efforts.
• Administrative Support: Provide special projects and administrative support for all philanthropy programs as needed, including regular correspondence with donors and prospective donors.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Student. College student in good academic standing, majoring in Marketing, Business Administration, or Mass Communication.
• Experience: Proven interpersonal, verbal, and communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with potential donors. Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is preferred.
• Skills: Detail-oriented, resourceful, and creative, with the ability to think strategically and execute detailed plans to completion. Possesses strong planning, research, and analytical skills, along with the ability to work independently, set priorities, and work under multiple deadlines. Dependability, flexibility, and reliable transportation are essential.
• Bonus: Desktop design and database management experience. Ability to obtain college course credit (based on college requirements) preferred.
