Pharmacy Technician | Walgreens

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Walgreens, typically located in local pharmacy settings across various communities. Walgreens operates a vast network of retail pharmacies, providing essential health and wellness services to communities. This role is crucial in supporting licensed pharmacists, ensuring efficient prescription processing, and delivering a delightful and reliable experience for every patient and customer, adhering to all state and federal regulations.

The TL;DR

• Team: Reports to Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist, and Store Manager, under direct pharmacist supervision.

What You’ll Actually Do
Process Prescriptions and Information: Accurately utilize pharmacy systems to obtain and enter patient and drug information, ensuring data integrity. Fill prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs, verifying the medicine’s correctness, and checking for possible interactions, all under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
Deliver Exceptional Customer Experience: Engage with customers and patients by greeting them, proactively offering assistance with products and services, and resolving their issues or questions to ensure a positive and delightful interaction. This includes modeling and sharing customer service best practices and fostering strong relationships with key customers.
Manage Pharmacy Workflow and Operations: Perform a variety of operational tasks including assisting pharmacists with scheduling and workflow maintenance. Accurately register all sales on assigned cash registers, collect and handle cash, and process manual claims for third-party prescription services. Handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist’s direct attention.
Oversee Inventory and Department Maintenance: Support the Pharmacy Department’s inventory management activities, such as ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments. Maintain knowledge of asset protection techniques, file claims for warehouse overages, shortages, or damaged goods, and ensure the department is consistently stocked, clean, neat, and orderly.
Ensure Compliance and Support Clinical Services: Strictly adhere to all state and federal regulations, company policies including Good Faith Dispensing, and the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct, immediately reporting any prescription errors. May also assist pharmacists in administering clinical services, such as sample collection, and support outreach efforts to the local medical community and health groups.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-level role in pharmacy support, requiring fluency in English (reading, writing, speaking) and an understanding of pharmacy operations.
• Experience: No specific years required; however, six months of experience in a retail environment and prior work experience with Walgreens are preferred.
• Skills: Strong mathematical skills for accurate medication handling, proficient computer skills, and knowledge of store inventory control.
• Bonus: Current PTCB or ExCPT certification.
