The Tone:
This is an in-person internship at Walgreens, designed to equip future pharmacists with practical experience in a high-volume retail pharmacy setting. What You’ll Actually Do
• Customer Experience Management: Engage directly with customers and patients by greeting them, offering assistance with products and services, and resolving issues to ensure a positive experience. This includes modeling and sharing customer service best practices, developing strong patient relationships, and demonstrating interpersonal habits such as greeting, eye contact, and courtesy, while proactively identifying and servicing needs until satisfaction.
• Prescription Fulfillment and Processing: Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, assist with the full cycle of prescription processing, from accurate data entry and third-party billing to the precise filling and dispensing of medications. This role requires strict adherence to Walgreens’ standard operating procedures, state and federal regulations, and the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
• Direct Patient Care Services: Collaborate with pharmacists and other healthcare providers to deliver patient care services permitted within the state scope of practice for pharmacy interns. This encompasses conducting patient counseling, assisting with health services like blood pressure monitoring, and participating in medication therapy management, while strictly adhering to the Good Faith Dispensing policy and immediately reporting any prescription errors to the supervising pharmacist.
• Pharmacy Operations and Inventory Control: Support daily pharmacy operations by assisting with comprehensive inventory management, including the ordering, unpacking, checking, and proper storage of pharmaceutical shipments. Maintain the department’s appearance by ensuring it is stocked, clean, neat, and orderly, and handle administrative tasks such as processing sales on the cash register, managing cash, and handling non-pharmacist telephone inquiries, including calls to physicians.
• Continuous Learning and Compliance: Actively learn from all store and pharmacy team members, field leadership, and customers/patients, completing all required training modules. Maintain current knowledge and skills in healthcare and pharmacy developments, ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures, and complete special assignments as directed to support the overall pharmacy environment.

• Background: Must be currently enrolled in an accredited School of Pharmacy program.
• Experience: Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
• Skills: Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English; ability to adhere to company policies and procedures.
