2027 PGY1 Community Pharmacy Resident | Safeway
The Tone:
This is an in-person postgraduate year one (PGY1) residency program at Albertsons Companies, with the specific location dependent on the state where the program is conducted. Albertsons Companies is a large organization focused on building the future of food and well-being, where customer service and patient care are paramount. This residency program is a vital step for professional development, aimed at cultivating pharmacist practitioners who will significantly impact and advance community pharmacy practice. Residents will lead and contribute to the company’s growth by exploring new approaches and reinforcing lasting customer relationships, operating in an environment that is constantly evolving.
The TL;DR

• Mission: To develop skilled pharmacist practitioners prepared for diverse patient care, practice management, leadership, and education, who will advance community pharmacy practice.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Patient Care: Manage and improve the medication-use process, providing evidence-based, patient-centered care and collaborating with other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.
• Practice Development: Exercise leadership and practice management skills to lead and contribute to the growth of community pharmacy through the creation and implementation of new programs and services.
• Pharmacy Operations: Staff the pharmacy providing a range of services including prescription processing, benefits investigation, inventory management, patient counseling, self-care triage, immunizations, medication administration, MTM, Specialty Care, diabetes care, and smoking cessation services.
• Education & Mentorship: Facilitate classes at an affiliated college of pharmacy, complete teaching certificate coursework, and precept pharmacy student interns (both IPPE/APPE students).
• Research & Community Engagement: Develop research study designs and analyses, and collaborate in conducting community health events and marketing activities such as flu clinics and health screenings.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Doctorate Degree in Pharmacy. This is an entry-level residency program for new pharmacy graduates.
• Experience: Must be a graduate of an ACPE-accredited Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) program, licensed or eligible for licensure in the state or jurisdiction where the residency program is conducted. Candidates should have experience commensurate with the requirements of new pharmacy graduates.
• Skills: Demonstrated knowledge, skills, attitudes, and abilities necessary to achieve the PGY1 residency program goals and objectives, including strong academic performance.
• Skills: Competency in managing the medication-use process, providing patient-centered care, exercising leadership and practice management, and delivering medication-related information and training.
