Baselga Cancer Research Scholar | AstraZeneca
The Tone:
This is a 2-year immersive education and research program at AstraZeneca for early-career Oncologists. AstraZeneca is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of science to deliver life-changing medicines to patients, aiming to eliminate cancer as a cause of death. This role is critical for building clinical expertise in drug development and making a positive impact on patients’ lives by transforming care through scientific discovery and execution excellence.

• Mission: To accelerate the development of early-career Oncologists, empowering them to drive clinical development and transform patient care.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Clinical Study Assignment: Join a clinical study team and build experience as a medical leader in early or late clinical development, participating in scientific meetings and AstraZeneca training programs.
• Medical Directorship: Serve as a medical director, primarily responsible for patient safety and conduct of assigned trials, including data interpretation and safety surveillance.
• Clinical Development Strategy: Assist in designing clinical development plans and overall strategy for compounds, therapeutic classes, or indications, considering advancements in clinical and pharmaceutical oncology.
• Rotational Program Participation: Engage in 3-6 month long rotations across various departments such as Patient Safety, Clinical Operations, Regulatory Affairs, Biostatistics, Medical Affairs, Translational Medicine, or Precision Medicine.
• Research Project Leadership: Lead an innovative research project of your choosing for the duration of the program, utilizing internal datasets and expertise, with the goal of presenting and publishing the findings.
The Must-Haves
• Background: MD or equivalent required; ideally board certified (or eligible) preferred in Oncology or Haematology/Oncology. Career level: Early-career Oncologists.
• Experience: 0-5 years of experience in molecular oncology and/or translational science.
• Skills: Excellent oral and written communication, strong interpersonal and listening skills, proven leadership, and ability to interact collaboratively in a cross-functional environment.
• Bonus: Medical specialty and sub-specialty training and Board Certification. Results-driven to achieve creative outcomes, ability to make sound and timely decisions, high emotional intelligence, and ability to build effective teams.
