New Grad RN Residency | Grand Strand Medical Center – HCA

The Tone:
This is a full-time residency role at Grand Strand Medical Center, located in Myrtle Beach, SC. Grand Strand Medical Center, a 300+ bed acute care facility and Level I trauma center, has provided quality healthcare services since 1978 and is one of the region’s leading acute care facilities. This residency program is designed to provide new nursing graduates with a year-long, hands-on experience, fostering valuable clinical and critical thinking skills essential for a successful transition from student nurse to a competent Registered Nurse. What You’ll Actually Do
• Patient Assessment: Assess and monitor patient condition upon admission and throughout each shift as scheduled, actively identifying and promptly reporting any significant changes in patient status to ensure continuous, high-quality care.
• Clinical Procedures & Documentation: Perform various medical procedures, monitoring activities, and other functions as directed by medical providers, ensuring meticulous and timely documentation of all care administered within the patient medical record.
• Medication Administration & Monitoring: Administer prescribed medications, closely monitor patients for therapeutic responses, and promptly notify providers and intervene appropriately in the event of any unintended or adverse reactions.
• Patient-Centered Care Advocacy: Deliver individualized, comprehensive, and compassionate patient-centered care, serving as an advocate for patients, their families, and caregivers to support an unparalleled patient experience. This includes proactively anticipating and resolving patient needs and responding promptly to all requests.
• Education and Guidance: Educate patients, families, and caregivers on their medical condition, treatment plans, prescribed medications, potential side effects, and necessary follow-up measures, translating complex medical terminology to ensure complete understanding and empower informed decisions.

The Must-Haves
• Background: An Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited program is required. Candidates must be eligible for or hold a Registered Nurse License in the State to participate in this year-long, paid residency program designed for transitioning new graduates into professional Registered Nurses, which includes advanced clinical training and monthly educational sessions.
• Experience: No previous professional nursing experience is required, as this program is specifically tailored for new graduates seeking hands-on experience and skill development. Residents will gain experience through preceptorship training, hands-on simulations, mentoring from experienced nurse leaders, and collaborative work on an evidence-based practice project.
• Skills: Must obtain Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of employment and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 1 year of employment. The role requires the development and application of strong clinical, critical thinking, and patient communication skills within a collaborative care team environment.
