Payroll Co-Op | AZCO

The Tone:
This is a internship at AZCO, located in Appleton, WI. This role is integral to maintaining accurate employee records within the ERP/Payroll system and supporting critical weekly and monthly payroll processes. As a Payroll Co-Op, you will play a vital role in ensuring compliance with union regulations and government requirements, contributing to the smooth operation of payroll functions for the company. Your work will directly impact employee satisfaction and data integrity.

• Mission: This role ensures accurate and complete employee records and supports the weekly payroll process and monthly union remittances.
• Tech Stack: ERP/Payroll system, Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

What You’ll Actually Do
• Collect New Hire Paperwork: Coordinate with field management staff to collect, review, and save union new hire paperwork, ensuring all information is complete and accurate.
• Manage Employee Records: Create and update union employee records in the ERP system, ensuring demographics, union details, project assignment data, personal data, and withholdings are correct.
• Ensure Compliance: Verify union I-9 forms according to government regulations, document them in the ERP system, and ensure Social Security verifications are recorded in the employee master file.
• Process New Hire Reports: Submit new hire reports to state agencies as required.
• Support Payroll Operations: Provide general support to the payroll team during weekly processing and monthly union remittances, including responding to and resolving union employee payroll inquiries.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. High School Diploma/GED and 1 year of accounting and/or payroll experience is required, or pursuit of an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without requiring future sponsorship for employment visa status.
• Experience: One year of accounting and/or payroll experience is required for those with a High School Diploma/GED; prior internship and/or related consulting experience is preferred for degree seekers. A minimum of a 3.0 GPA is strongly preferred for degree seekers.
• Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong problem-solving and analytical skills, and basic knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Bonus: Actively involved in campus, community, or other volunteer activities or organizations; demonstrated leadership skills; self-motivated and eager learner with an aptitude to grow and develop within the field.
