Associate Director, Patient Engagement & Advocacy- Eastern Region | Neurocrine Biosciences
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Neurocrine Biosciences, located in the Eastern Region of the United States. Neurocrine is a biopharmaceutical company focused on discovering, developing, and commercializing treatments for neurological, psychiatric, endocrine, and immunological disorders to relieve suffering for people with great needs. This role is crucial for leading regional patient advocacy relationships, translating national priorities into local strategies, and ensuring patient and caregiver perspectives inform and shape company programs and policies. You will foster mutually beneficial relationships with patient advocacy organizations and lead educational and engagement initiatives.

• Mission: To lead and advance regional patient advocacy relationships and engagement, translating insights into broader functional strategy.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Regional Strategy: Develops and leads the patient advocacy and engagement strategy for an assigned region, aligning with national priorities and influencing broader functional strategy through community insights.
• Relationship Cultivation: Establishes and cultivates trusted, long-term relationships with rare disease and other priority patient advocacy stakeholders, including organizations and individual advocates.
• Cross-functional Advising: Provides patient advocacy expertise and strategic recommendations to internal partners, including marketing, market access, HEOR, medical affairs, government affairs, and corporate communications.
• Resource Management: Manages a regional patient advocacy sponsorship budget and grant-review process, applying sound judgment, compliance, and strategic priorities to resource allocation.
• Insight Gathering: Evaluates the external patient advocacy, policy, and industry landscape across priority disease states to identify trends, needs, risks, and strategic opportunities.
The Must-Haves
• Background: BS/BA degree in public health, public policy, communications, business, life sciences, social sciences, or a related field.
• Experience: 10+ years in the pharma, biotech industry or patient advocacy, specifically in patient engagement, advocacy, and/or relations, including developing communications and educational resources; OR 8+ years with a Master’s degree; OR 6+ years with a PhD.
• Skills: Demonstrated ability to independently lead complex, high-impact initiatives across multiple disease states and cross-functional groups; demonstrated ability to establish, cultivate, and sustain credible, mutually beneficial working relationships with patient advocacy organizations, patients, and caregivers; deep expertise in patient advocacy and patient engagement, serving as an emerging internal thought leader.
• Bonus: Knowledge of patient advocacy communities within neuroscience, including mental health and movement disorders, is preferred.
