Job Description:
The Pastoral Care CPE Intern position at OhioHealth is a student chaplain role that provides pastoral care and spiritual support to patients, family members/significant others, and staff within the assigned healthcare setting, under the supervision of a staff chaplain. The intern will be a member of an interfaith pastoral care staff, participating in patient care, on-call responsibilities, and creating meaningful worship experiences.
Responsibilities and Duties:
• 60%: Direct patient care under supervision, responding to emergent and routine requests. Assessing spiritual needs of patients and families through clinical pastoral conversation. Communicating and documenting patient interactions, consulting with chaplain supervisor. Creating a positive patient experience through respectful and compassionate relationships.
• 20%: Participation in on-call rotation, including overnight and weekend shifts.
• 10%: Providing appropriate religious/spiritual rituals and non-pharmacological interventions to patients, families, and the inter-professional team. Serving as a liaison with the patient’s faith group/leaders and other community or cultural resources.
• 10%: Providing care in diverse acute/non-acute settings, including hospital and outpatient areas.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree
• At least one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE, NACC, CASC) or equivalent faith group leadership experience.
• Knowledge of crisis care and counseling skills.
