The Tone:
This is an internship at Bartlett Tree Experts, located in Phoenix, AZ. Bartlett is a century-old scientific tree and shrub care company, built on family values and dedicated to the pursuit of scientific tree care. This role offers a unique opportunity for aspiring arborists to gain practical field experience and develop their careers through hands-on training in scientific tree and shrub care. You will contribute to keeping trees healthy and beautiful on commercial and residential properties.
The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Type: Seasonal (8-12 weeks, 40 hours per week, generally starting in May with flexible dates)
• Location: Phoenix, AZ (On-site)
• Team: Arborists team
• Mission: To learn the fundamentals of scientific tree and shrub care while exploring various facets of this rewarding industry through hands-on experience.
• Tech Stack: Hand tools, chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts
What You’ll Actually Do
• Arboriculture Techniques: Learn and safely perform various aspects of arboriculture, including pruning, rigging, cabling and bracing, root collar excavations, and tree removals.
• Equipment Operation: Properly maintain and operate essential arboriculture equipment such as hand tools, chainsaws, chippers, and aerial lifts.
• Pest Management: Gain an understanding of integrated pest management programs through property inspections, tree identification, insect and disease identification and management, and soil sampling.
• Administrative Tasks: Engage in important administrative duties including record-keeping, report writing, and fostering positive client relations.
• Professional Development: Participate actively in safety and training meetings, and develop professional relationships and friendships within the team.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Early Career. Pursuing a degree in Arboriculture, Forestry, Turfgrass, Horticulture, Environmental Science, Plant Science, Outdoor Recreation, Agriculture, or a related field.
• Experience: No specific prior professional experience is required for this early career internship role.
• Skills: A positive attitude, willingness to learn, ability to work effectively on a multi-disciplinary team, and a passion for nature, the environment, and the outdoors.
