Job Title: Pastoral Care CPE Intern
Summary: The Pastoral Care CPE Intern is a student chaplain who provides pastoral care and spiritual support to patients, family members/significant others, and staff within the assigned healthcare setting, under the supervision of a staff chaplain. The intern functions as part of an interfaith pastoral care team, sharing responsibilities like patient care, on-call duties, and facilitating meaningful worship experiences.
Responsibilities and Duties:
• 60%: Direct Patient Care: Providing direct patient care for emergent and routine requests. Assessing spiritual needs, communicating with patients and families using clinical pastoral conversation, and documenting interactions. Focuses on creating a positive patient experience through respectful and compassionate relationships with patients, families, and staff.
• 20%: On-Call Rotation: Participating in on-call duties, including overnight and weekend shifts.
• 10%: Religious/Spiritual Rituals and Interventions: Providing appropriate religious/spiritual rituals and non-pharmacological interventions to patients, families, and the inter-professional team. May act as a liaison with faith groups or community/cultural resources.
• 10%: Care in Diverse Settings: Providing care in various acute and non-acute settings, including hospital and outpatient areas.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree
Additional Job Description:
• Education/Experience: At least one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE, NACC, CASC) or equivalent faith group leadership experience.
• Skills: Knowledge of crisis care and counseling skills.
