Position: Mid-Engineering Technician
As the Mid-Engineering Technician, you will be a vital member of a team dedicated to performing IT systems modernization at various Department of Defense (DoD) facilities worldwide. This role involves the hands-on installation of crucial IT infrastructure, including server equipment racks, IP-based video surveillance cameras, desktop computing systems and peripherals, comprehensive cabling solutions, and rack-mounted equipment across U.S. Army Installations globally.
You will execute standardized or prescribed assignments involving a sequence of related operations, following established work methods for recurring tasks. For unfamiliar assignments, you will receive explicit instructions. Routine work will be reviewed upon completion, while non-routine tasks may be reviewed in progress to ensure technical adequacy.
Serco proudly supports the US Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) as a Prime contractor on Navy facilities. Our team is responsible for their Electronic Security Systems (ESS) contract, encompassing the maintenance of Munition Centers (NMC) as well as the upgrading and maintenance of Emergency Operations Centers (EOC) Audio/Video Systems. Our efforts include upgrading, maintaining, and managing installations for Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), Access Control Systems (ACS), Closed Circuit Television Systems (CCTV), and video Briefing Display Systems (BDS).
You will join a collaborative team of programmers, technicians, and installers who work closely with the customer and other Serco teams to deliver high-quality systems. This team has consistently been recognized by the Naval Information Warfare Center and the industry for its outstanding contributions to the contract and program.
This position offers the flexibility to live anywhere in the United States and involves international travel. It requires flexible working hours, meaning you must be willing to work more than 40 hours per week and be available to work after normal duty hours depending on customer requirements.
Employment in this role is contingent upon your ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.
In This Role You Will:
- Follow specific instructions to assemble or construct simple or standard equipment or parts, and service or repair simple instruments or equipment.
- Conduct a variety of tests using established methods, adjusting and operating equipment, recording test data, and identifying deviations resulting from equipment malfunction or observational errors.
- Gather and maintain specified records of engineering data such as tests, drawings, etc., performing computations, plotting data, and verifying that test data meets acceptance criteria.
- Unpack and re-pack equipment for testing and shipment to customer facilities.
- Extract engineering data from various prescribed but non-standardized sources, process the data following well-defined methods including elementary algebra and geometry, and present the data in a prescribed form.
- Perform the installation of CAT 6 cabling.
- Terminate CAT 6 using the T568B color code standard.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
To Be Successful In This Role, You Will Have:
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.
- U.S Citizenship is required.
- Must be able to obtain a CAC (Common Access Card).
- Must be able to obtain access to all military installations.
- Must be willing to travel up to 90% of the time, for durations up to 4 months at a time.
- Must be able to travel internationally.
- Must be able to obtain a valid U.S. Passport within 30 days of employment.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- A High School Diploma/GED.
- Minimum 2 years of related experience.
- Ability to work independently, meet schedules, and fulfill duty requirements.
- To be organized, with the ability to coordinate, prioritize, and execute multiple tasks.
- Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in areas with drafts, noise, and temperature variation.
- Ability to work during inclement weather or other adverse conditions.
- Ability to work in high heat spaces, climb dry dock stairs/ladders, and work in a kneeling position for layout of cable runs under false decking.
- Ability to perform work on ladders and lifts.
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs without assistance, with 80% of work requiring carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to 40lbs for the majority of a shift while being in a standing, crouching, or walking position.
- Familiarity with typical hand tools.
- Ability to work with power tools; drill, Sawzall, Rotozip saw, Dremel, etc.
Additional Desired Experience and Skills:
- Active DoD Secret security clearance.
- A current US passport.
- Fast learner.
- General or advanced troubleshooting experience.
- Experience using Digital Multi-meter and power meters.
- General knowledge to mount hardware on varying surfaces.
- Familiarity with Wire, Cable termination.
- Familiarity with RJ45 connectors and terminations.
- General knowledge of Microsoft software (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- General knowledge of Basic Intrusion Detection Systems, Access Control, CCTV, and Audio Video Installation.
- Experience in Cable installation, testing, and termination (Cat 5/6, Multi conductor).
- Fundamental understanding of Server installation and use case.
- Familiarity with installation of Rack hardware and cabling techniques.
- General knowledge of low voltage control systems.
- Familiarity with system support components including power supplies, wall transformers, and circuit breakers.

Salary Range: This role is covered by the Service Contract Act. For positions on this contract, we will pay the prevailing wage rate for the location in which the employee is working, as determined by the Department of Labor and the Wage Determination (WD). The wage rate will vary depending on the locality. Additionally, you will receive Health and Welfare Benefits based on the WD for the contract.
