[Fall 2026] Education – K-12 Initiatives Internship | Whitney Museum of American Art

The Tone:
This is an in-person internship at the Whitney Museum of American Art, located in New York, NY. The Whitney is a renowned institution dedicated to collecting, preserving, interpreting, and exhibiting American art from the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, championing the most innovative art in the United States. This role is crucial within the Education Department’s K-12 Initiatives, directly contributing to the museum’s mission of serving a wide variety of audiences by delivering engaging and impactful educational experiences for school groups and teachers. The intern will support program preparation, assist with tours, conduct research, and manage essential resources, playing a significant part in fostering art appreciation and learning for young audiences.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Program Preparation: Collect and organize art supplies to ensure smooth execution of educational programs.
• Educational Facilitation: Work directly with the Museum’s Freelance Educators to assist K-12 school groups during both in-person guided tours and virtual programs.
• Content Development: Conduct research for new exhibitions to create comprehensive resource packets specifically for Freelance Educators.
• Administrative Support: Assist School Programs staff with small-scale research projects, including data collection and analysis, and help manage the School Programs calendar, website, and mailing list.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Student currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate academic program. Applicants must have completed a minimum of one year’s worth of academic coursework, as undergraduate freshmen are not eligible.
• Experience: Demonstrates an active interest in working with K-12 school and teacher audiences. Previous museum experience is not required for this role.
• Skills: Possesses strong organizational abilities and an outgoing personality suitable for interacting with diverse groups.
• Bonus: Prior experience working with children of different ages; a desire to learn more about inquiry-based teaching methodologies within gallery settings; a demonstrated interest in art and art history.
