Jr. Lifeguard Camp Assistant | The City of Pompano Beach

The Tone:
This is a part-time, temporary role at The City of Pompano Beach, located in Pompano Beach, FL. The City’s Parks & Recreation Department oversees Aquatics facilities and public beaches, offering valuable community programs. This role is integral to the Beach Jr. Lifeguard Camp, focusing on directing aquatic activities and ensuring participant safety and program effectiveness.

• Team: Works collaboratively with Beach Jr. Lifeguard Camp Coordinators within the Parks & Recreation/Aquatics Department.
• Mission: To assist in directing aquatic activities for the Jr. Lifeguard Camp and ensure all activities are conducted safely and effectively.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Activity Direction: Collaborate with Beach Jr. Lifeguard Camp Coordinators to facilitate and guide the various aquatic activities for the Jr. Lifeguard Camp.
• Safety Assurance: Actively assist in ensuring that all aquatic activities are conducted safely and in accordance with established procedures, protecting all camp participants.
• Program Effectiveness: Support Coordinators in the effective implementation of the Jr. Lifeguard Camp’s aquatic programs and curriculum elements.
• Site Operations: Contribute to the smooth daily operation of aquatic camp activities, whether held at the public beach or the Aquatics Facility.
• General Support: Perform any additional related duties as required to support the overall objectives and success of the Jr. Lifeguard Camp.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Candidates must be at least 16 years of age and have previously participated in the Pompano Beach Jr. Lifeguard camp. Required certifications include the completion of the Jr. Lifeguard Program Authorization, Waiver, and Release.
• Experience: Proven ability to meet specific physical performance standards for aquatic environments. For the Beach Program, this entails successfully completing a physical test consisting of a 300-meter run, followed by a 300-meter swim, and another 300-meter run. Alternatively, candidates must have completed two summer sessions of the Pompano Beach Jr. Lifeguard Camp within the last two years of hire. For the Aquatic Facility, a continuous, untimed 150-yard swim test is required.
• Skills: Demonstrated capability to follow both written and oral instructions accurately. Essential is the ability to effectively ensure the safety of students across a variety of camp situations and aquatic settings.
