Jr. Lifeguard Camp Assistant | City of Pompano Beach

The Tone:
This is a part-time, temporary role with the City of Pompano Beach, located in Pompano Beach, Florida. The City is looking for enthusiastic individuals to support the Parks & Recreation/Aquatics Department. This position is vital in assisting with the Jr. Lifeguard Camp, contributing directly to community safety and the positive development of young participants through aquatic activities.

• Team: Works within the Parks & Recreation/Aquatics Department, collaborating with Beach Jr. Lifeguard Camp Coordinators.
• Mission: To assist in directing aquatic activities and ensuring the safety of participants in the Jr. Lifeguard Camp program.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Collaborate with Beach Jr. Lifeguard Camp Coordinators to lead aquatic activities for camp participants.
• Assist in ensuring that all aquatic activities are conducted safely and effectively at designated beach or aquatics facilities.
• Support the overall operation and daily flow of the Jr. Lifeguard Camp program.
• Follow all written and oral instructions to maintain program standards and ensure participant well-being.
• Perform various related duties as needed to support camp objectives and safety protocols.

The Must-Haves
• Background:
• Required: Ability to pass an FDLE Level II criminal Background Check and fingerprinting.
• Age: Minimum 16 years of age for the Beach program, or minimum 15 years of age for the Pool program.
• Experience:
• Required: Previous participation as a Beach Jr. Lifeguard camp participant.
• Certification: Completion of the Jr. Lifeguard Program Authorization, Waiver, and Release.
• For Beach Program Eligibility (alternative to physical test): Completion of two (2) summer sessions of Pompano Beach Jr. Lifeguard Camp within the last two years of hire.
• Skills:
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions accurately and efficiently.
• Demonstrated ability to ensure the safety of students across various aquatic situations.
• Physical Performance Test (must pass one of the following):
• For the Beach Program: Consists of a 300-meter run, a 300-meter swim, and a 300-meter run.
• For the Aquatic Facility Program: Consists of a continuous, untimed 150-yard swim test.
