The Role

We are seeking an IoT Automation Engineer Intern to assist in the development and maintenance of our industrial sensor networks and control systems. This role is ideal for a student or recent graduate looking for hands-on experience in IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things), PLC programming, and environmental monitoring.

This position is not currently funded but comes with the potential option of a salaried position later on. Also, additional compensation in the form of equity may be offered after a period of employment.

What You Will Do:

  • System Integration: Assist in connecting hardware (sensors for nitrogen, temperature, pH) to our cloud-based monitoring platforms.
  • Automation Logic: Work alongside senior engineers to develop and test PLC/MCU logic for automated water bypass and harvesting systems.
  • Edge Computing: Gain experience with industrial protocols (Modbus, MQTT, LoRaWAN) and hardware like Raspberry Pi, Arduino, or industrial PLCs.
  • Data Visualization: Help build dashboards to track real-time carbon sequestration and water quality metrics.
  • Troubleshooting: Participate in remote and on-site diagnostics of automated environmental systems.

Qualifications

  • Education: Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Hardware Interest: Basic understanding of microcontrollers, sensors, and actuators.
  • Software Skills: Exposure to Python, C++, or structured text (PLC programming). Familiarity with IoT platforms (e.g., AWS IoT, ThingsBoard, or Azure) is a plus.
  • Experience: Prior experience with industrial communication protocols is a must with preference for Modbus, TCP protocols and LoRa with the ability to integrate MQTT as well.
  • Mission-Driven: A genuine interest in climate tech and sustainable infrastructure.
  • Communication: Ability to work independently and communicate technical updates to a remote team.
