Campus Undergraduate Summer Internship Program – 2027 Staff Auditor, Internal Audit Group – Phoenix, AZ | American Express

The Tone:
This is a full-time summer internship at American Express, located in Phoenix, AZ. American Express is a large financial services organization committed to innovation and backing its customers, communities, and colleagues. This role is crucial within the Internal Audit Group (IAG), which aims to protect and enhance organizational value by providing independent and objective assurance. The Staff Auditor intern will contribute to IAG’s mission by gaining hands-on audit experience and helping to influence how the Company manages risk.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Develop Skills: Acquire operational internal audit skills through a project that exposes you to various portfolios within the third line of defense.
• Evaluate Risk: Serve as a key team member on operational audit projects by evaluating risk and business process or technology controls across American Express.
• Document Processes: Research and learn about an audit entity, documenting processes under review in accordance with IAG methodology.
• Conduct Tests: Implement audit tests, including business process and technology control tests, and detail the results accurately.
• Collaborate and Support: Partner with business process audit teams and management to understand key processes, risks, and controls, and support senior auditors in achieving audit objectives.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level, currently enrolled in a full-time Bachelor’s degree program with an expected graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028.
• Experience: No prior professional experience required; foundational understanding in accounting, finance, information systems, data analytics, or information technology is preferred.
• Skills: Ability to identify and evaluate risk, understanding of business process controls, critical thinking, and a willingness to strengthen data skills.
• Bonus: Pursuing a BA, BS, or equivalent degree in accounting, finance, information systems, data analytics, or an information technology-related field.
