This is an internship at The Shelf, located in New York City. The Shelf is a permanent discovery market, set to open this September at 58 W 8th Street, offering a unique retail concept where customers can sample individual items before purchasing full-sized products. The company prides itself on finding and showcasing innovative brands ahead of mainstream recognition. This intern role is fundamental to the successful launch and ongoing visibility of The Shelf. It involves a diverse range of activities from digital content creation and street-level marketing to brand scouting and public representation, directly contributing to establishing The Shelf’s presence as a go-to destination for new product discovery in NYC.
The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Type: Part-time, Temporary (approximately 10 hours per week, from now through the opening in September and continuing beyond)
• Location: In-person, New York City Metropolitan Area
• Team: Reports directly to the founder, working both collaboratively and independently on key initiatives.
• Mission: This person’s mission is to amplify The Shelf’s brand message, drive community engagement, and help curate an exciting selection of products, ensuring the market’s innovative approach to discovery reaches its target audience effectively.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Content Production: Drive the creation of engaging digital content, working closely with the founder on concept development and independently on execution across various platforms.
• Street-Level Marketing: Implement grassroots marketing campaigns across New York City, which includes distributing flyers and strategically placing QR codes to raise brand awareness.
• Brand Sourcing and Outreach: Actively research and identify up-and-coming brands that align with The Shelf’s discovery mission, initiating contact and building relationships for potential product featuring.
• Influencer Box Fulfillment: Coordinate and assemble influencer marketing packages, ensuring timely and accurate delivery to support outreach efforts.
• Public Representation: Serve as a public face for The Shelf, representing the company at various events and engagements to foster community connections and promote the market’s unique concept.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. Candidates should possess a foundational understanding of consumer trends, particularly in the snack and beverage industry, coupled with an keen interest in product packaging aesthetics and marketing strategies.
• Experience: Demonstrated comfort and capability in performing on camera for content creation. Proven aptitude for generating original and impactful marketing ideas to capture audience attention.
• Skills: Comfort on camera; creative marketing idea generation; awareness of emerging snack brand trends; strong opinions and insights regarding product packaging design.
