Geosyntec Consultants offers an exceptional opportunity to join our team as an Intern / Co-Op – Civil / Environmental Engineer, Geologist in one of our vibrant Michigan offices: Ann Arbor, Detroit, or Grand Rapids.

This position is designed for ambitious students ready to bridge their academic knowledge with practical, real-world applications. You will have the chance to apply your expertise in civil, geotechnical, environmental, and water resources engineering, or geology to diverse projects, while simultaneously gaining invaluable business skills crucial for a successful career in consulting.

This is a flexible, part-time or full-time (up to 40 hours/week) role, running for approximately 13 to 15 weeks during the spring or summer semester of 2026. We highly prefer candidates who demonstrate the potential and interest to return for up to two additional semester rotations during their undergraduate or graduate studies, fostering a continuous learning and development experience. Please note that candidates are responsible for coordinating their own transportation to and from the office.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

As an Intern / Co-Op, you will gain hands-on experience in a dynamic consulting environment. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with engineering calculations utilizing various computer-based technical tools and software.
  • Contributing to technical writing, including the preparation of reports, letters, memoranda, plans, specifications, and proposals, enhancing your communication skills.
  • Performing data input and analysis, and meticulously preparing maps, tables, and figures to visualize and communicate project findings.
  • Following instructions and effectively interacting with diverse teams, including engineers, geologists, administrative staff, CADD operators, contractors, and construction personnel.
  • Potential for fieldwork, providing invaluable practical experience in activities such as soil and groundwater sampling, stormwater inspections, and direct drilling and contractor oversight.
  • Supporting office operations through office organization, storage management, equipment management, and other non-chargeable tasks that contribute to overall efficiency.
  • Driving personal, company, and rental vehicles to various client or company project sites, office locations, and other business destinations, as needed for project success.

Education and Licensure

Required:

  • Currently registered in a Bachelor’s or Master’s university degree program in a relevant engineering discipline (e.g., Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geological Engineering).

Preferred:

  • Degree focus area in civil, geotechnical, environmental or water resources engineering, geology, or hydrogeology.
  • Enrollment at the upper division (e.g., Junior) or Master’s level of your academic program.

Skills, Experience And Qualifications

Required:

  • Outstanding academic credentials demonstrating a strong foundation in your chosen field.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills for effective collaboration and client interaction.
  • Strong technical writing, oral, and written communication skills for clear and concise reporting.
  • Proven problem-solving skills to address complex engineering and environmental challenges.
  • Possession of a valid U.S. driver’s license, reliable transportation, and a satisfactory driving record for business travel to project sites.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience with industry-standard software such as ArcView, CADD, and/or proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Completion of OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training, demonstrating a commitment to safety in hazardous waste operations.
