Audit Accounting Intern | Mauldin & Jenkins

The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Location: In-person, Metairie, LA
• Mission: Support client engagements by assisting with audit, management, and tax preparation services to ensure accuracy and compliance.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Internal Controls: Assist with the comprehensive study and evaluation of clients’ internal accounting controls.
• Financial Reporting: Prepare financial statements in strict accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
• Account Reconciliation: Examine client reconciliations of bank accounts and subsidiary accounts to their controls, thoroughly investigating and documenting any discrepancies.
• Tax Preparation Support: Review data input for tax returns, identify and actively resolve technical tax issues, and provide assistance in the review of tax preparations.
• Tax Research & Assessment: Identify, conduct research on, and assess various tax issues, then provide clear and concise information and findings to senior staff members.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently pursuing an entry-level college degree with a major or concentration in accounting.
• Experience: Demonstrated well-rounded knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and generally accepted auditing standards (GAAS) as defined in accounting literature. Possess a working knowledge of federal and state income tax laws and regulations at a level sufficient for the preparation of tax returns.
• Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction. Ability to maintain a professional appearance in attitude, dress, poise, and conduct. A proven practice of accuracy when dealing with both numeric and alphabetic information.
• Bonus: Existing knowledge of Mauldin & Jenkins as a firm. Ability to provide your own housing and transportation for the duration of the internship. Flexibility and willingness to undertake overnight travel when necessary for client engagements.
