Job Description:
• Job Title: Intern
• Department: Tax/Audit
• Location: Norfolk, VA
• Program Overview: WEC is hiring for its 2026 Spring and Summer Internship Program. This comprehensive program is designed to provide interns with real-world experience and help develop their skills in the public accounting field. All internships are paid positions.
• Internship Periods:
• Spring Internship: Runs through tax season, from the beginning of January to mid-April. Both part-time and full-time hours are available.
• Summer Internship: Runs part-time from June 1, 2026, to August 5, 2026.
• Position Summary: Interns will learn from a team of passionate professionals dedicated to their success. They will gain hands-on experience and test their knowledge in both tax and assurance engagements. These engagements involve servicing a diverse range of clients, including multi-family residential real estate projects, closely held businesses, not-for-profits, and various operating companies.
• Position Duties:
• Prepare and draft financial statements, tax returns, and other client deliverables.
• Demonstrate proficiency in routinely used computer applications such as Windows 11, Microsoft Office 365, CCH Axcess, and Adobe Acrobat.
• Understand the risk-based audit approach and basic file structure for engagements.
• Gather appropriate evidence through effective client inquiries, tests of details, and basic analytic procedures.
• Prepare and complete engagement documentation.
• Effectively communicate project status updates to the appropriate supervisor or manager.
• Actively seek to improve personal performance by identifying strengths and areas for improvement, and applying feedback to future work.
• Qualifications:
• Must have achieved a “C” or better in an intermediate accounting or equivalent course.
• Must be pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree with an accounting or accounting-related concentration.
• Applicants should be current Junior, Senior, or Graduate school students.
• A strong interest in public accounting and an aspiration to obtain CPA certification are required.
