Information Technology, Emerging Talent Intern (Fall) | Metropolitan Transportation Authority

The Tone:
This is an onsite internship at the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), located in Staten Island, NY. The MTA is a vast transportation network dedicated to providing essential services to millions of customers. This role is crucial for maintaining an integrated, responsive, highly available, and secure Information Technology and Enterprise Asset Management environment, ensuring exceptional services for both internal users and external customers within the SIR IT & EAM department.

The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Location: In-person, Staten Island, NY
• Pay: $19–$21 hourly
• Team: NYCT – SIRTOA Operations Support (SIR IT & EAM department)
• Mission: Resolve IT issues, deploy and manage hardware/software, and provide direct technical support to maintain a functional and secure IT environment for end-users.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Office Suite, Service Now, HxGN, ArcGIS, Dell, HP, Solari Corp, Microsoft 365 Apps/Services.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Ticket Resolution: Submit and coordinate Service Now tickets with various MTA-IT teams to ensure timely issue resolution.
• Hardware/Software Deployment: Deploy PCs, phones, and cellphones to new users, verifying their access to LAN, corporate email, printers, internet, and essential applications.
• End-User Technical Support: Visit remote facilities to provide hands-on technical support for PCs, printers, Microsoft 365, mobile devices, and application software.
• Inventory & Lifecycle Management: Assist with tracking and managing the hardware and software inventory throughout its lifecycle.
• Database Development & Maintenance: Assist in developing custom databases to streamline work processes for SIRTOA departments, including regular updates and maintenance.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently matriculated in an undergraduate program with at least a 2.5 GPA, or a graduate program with at least a 2.8 GPA. Major should be in an Information Technology related field focusing on Computer Networking, Windows System Administration, and/or Database Development / Management.
• Experience: Minimum of 1 year of related experience in Network Engineering/Administration or Windows System Administration.
• Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, strong organizational and analytical skills, effective communication, ability to work well under pressure, excellent task prioritization, keen attention to detail, and ability to work independently while being an active team player.
