Health and Safety Intern

About the Role

Peabody is currently seeking a Health and Safety Intern to join our team at the St. Louis headquarters. Reporting directly to the Health and Safety Director, this role offers a valuable opportunity to support and contribute to a variety of ongoing departmental projects. These projects are designed to advance both corporate and site-level Health and Safety initiatives, providing a comprehensive learning experience in a vital industry.

Key Duties will include:

  • Drug & Alcohol Policy Administration: Assisting with the administration and coordination of Peabody’s Drug & Alcohol Policy and Program across both corporate offices and operational sites. This includes ensuring strict compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Workers’ Compensation Support: Supporting Workers’ Compensation requests by helping to gather necessary documentation, accurately tracking cases, and facilitating effective communication between internal teams and external partners.
  • Training and Development Initiatives: Assisting with various Training and Development initiatives, which involve scheduling programs, tracking employee participation, and providing support for the delivery of essential employee learning programs.
  • General Administrative Support: Providing comprehensive administrative support to the Health and Safety department. This includes managing documentation, coordinating meetings, and assisting with day-to-day operational needs to ensure smooth departmental functioning.
  • Records Retention Compliance: Assisting with Records Retention Compliance by maintaining organized files, supporting internal and external audits, and ensuring strict adherence to company policies and legal requirements.
  • Industry Knowledge Acquisition: Gaining foundational knowledge, awareness, and understanding of the mining and energy industries, including best industry practices, critical safety standards, and relevant regulatory environments.

The Lifestyle

This is a full-time position based at our corporate headquarters in St. Louis, MO. Peabody values work-life balance and offers flexible work policies, including hybrid office/home working arrangements. A unique benefit includes the opportunity to finish work at noon on Fridays. The pay range for this rewarding internship role is $21 – $28 per hour.

About You

We are looking for a motivated individual with the following qualifications and skills:

  • Education: Currently enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or graduate program of study. A major and/or significant coursework in business or another related area is preferred.
  • Experience: Prior internship experience is considered a plus, demonstrating a foundational understanding of professional environments.
  • Communication Skills: Possess strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to clearly convey ideas, communicate effectively with outside parties, and utilize active listening skills.
  • Teamwork: Experience working in a team environment, with a demonstrated ability to contribute positively toward team goals and collaborate effectively.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills, including a proven ability to prioritize various projects that may be in process simultaneously and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite of applications (including Word, Excel, Visio, and PowerPoint) is a significant plus.

Physical Requirements

Candidates must have the ability to perform standard office-related tasks, which may include prolonged periods of sitting or standing. The role requires the ability to move from place to place within an office environment. Some positions may occasionally require repetitive motion or movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
