About the Role
The Graduate Intern – AS&T will assist with reactive transport modeling under the Applied Studies and Technology Educational Collaboration initiative at DOE Office of Legacy Management sites. Specifically, this role involves completing reactive transport modeling of prior tracer tests at the Riverton, Wyoming, Processing Site to determine geochemical reactions, which will inform site-wide modeling for future remedial strategy selection.

What You’ll Do
• Computer programming, including but not limited to Python and Fortran.
• Determine the potential reactions (rock/water interactions), including biotic reactions, occurring at the former tailings area of the Riverton, WY, Processing site based on prior data, for incorporation into the conceptual site model.
• Complete reactive transport modeling (flow and geochemistry), including biotic reactions, of prior tracer testing data from the Riverton, WY, Processing site.
• Calibrate the modeling using an automated calibration routine (e.g., PEST) with an inclusion of model uncertainty.
• Write publishable journal article(s) based on essential duties and responsibilities.
• Other duties as assigned.

You’re a Good Fit If You
• Master’s degree in Geology, Geochemistry, Hydrogeology, Chemistry, Physics or a related field.
• 0 years of relevant experience.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Microsoft office including but not limited to Excel and Word.
• Some experience in geochemical modeling and reactive transport modeling.
• Able to pass a Criminal Background Check.
• Able to pass a Pre-placement Drug Screening.
• Able to pass a Fit for Duty Test (if applicable).

Bonus Qualifications
• Ph.D. candidate preferred.
• Some background in geochemistry and groundwater modeling preferred.
