This is a part-time student employee role at Sam Houston State University, located in Huntsville, TX. The Teaching & Learning Center (TLC) is dedicated to enhancing the educational experience by providing comprehensive support for faculty development and student learning initiatives. This Office Assistant position is crucial for ensuring the smooth daily operation of the center, serving as the first point of contact for all visitors and callers. • Mission: Facilitate efficient office operations and provide professional, welcoming support to all visitors, callers, and departmental programs.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Visitor and Caller Support: Serve as the primary point of contact, greeting and assisting visitors and callers in a professional manner, answering routine questions about the department and university, and accurately referring individuals to the appropriate resources.
• Office Environment Management: Ensure shared spaces, including the reception area, conference room, and break room, are maintained with a high level of cleanliness and organization.
• General Administrative Tasks: Perform essential office functions such as accurate data entry, photocopying, detailed filing, and the creation or distribution of various documents, forms, and correspondence.
• Event and Meeting Assistance: Provide comprehensive support for departmental events and meetings, including preparing necessary materials and presentations, assisting with event logistics like setup and teardown, and offering onsite support for programs and workshops.
• Program and Website Support: Offer administrative assistance for TLC programs by organizing and filing documents, processing applications, tracking submissions, handling email correspondence, and helping with website updates and content management.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Must be a Graduate Student with a minimum 2.5 GPA at Sam Houston State University.
• Experience: Demonstrated familiarity with university campus operations and services.
• Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint); proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment; strong attention to detail and accuracy; and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
• Bonus: A proactive attitude with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues independently, effective critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and a willingness to learn and adapt with a growth mindset.
