Finance Intern | Charlotte Hornets

The Tone:
This is a paid, in-person internship at Charlotte Hornets, located in Charlotte, NC. This Finance Intern role is crucial for supporting the department’s day-to-day operations, offering hands-on experience in financial reconciliations, accounts payable and receivables, budget analysis, and general accounting entries.

The TL;DR

• Mission: This person will provide essential hands-on support to the finance department by assisting with critical functions such as daily cash consolidation, accounts payable, receivables, budget comparisons, and general accounting entries, gaining practical experience in sports and entertainment finance operations.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Daily Cash Consolidation: Assist with the meticulous consolidation of daily cash transactions specifically for ticketing and various events hosted by HSE.
• Tax Information Support: Provide support in the preparation of necessary tax information for multiple entities and different jurisdictions.
• Data Management and Summarization: Update comprehensive Excel workbooks and effectively summarize key information, which includes tracking insurance policies and sponsorship contracts.
• Transaction Processing and Ledger Entries: Contribute to the finance department by assisting with accounts payable entries, recording routine cash transactions in the subledger, and posting batches to the general ledger.
• Budget Comparison and Travel Reconciliation: Perform actual versus budget comparisons, and meticulously reconcile and process invoices related to both team travel and media travel, including tracking and updating associated allocations.
• Program Participation: Actively participate in the full internship program, engaging in workshops, speaker series, job shadowing opportunities, and contributing to an intern project.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level position; currently pursuing a degree in Finance or a related field.
• Experience: No specific years of experience are required for this role.
• Skills:
• Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational capabilities to ensure accuracy in financial tasks.
• Proven time management skills and the ability to effectively prioritize tasks with clearly defined goals and objectives.
• Proficiency in using Excel for data summarization and workbook updates, as required for financial tracking.
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and exercise appropriate discretion when handling sensitive financial information.
• Strong teamwork skills, coupled with the capacity to manage individual projects efficiently, and present professionally while interacting across all organizational levels and with external contacts.
• Flexibility and reliability to contribute effectively to the department and the wider organization, including a willingness to work extended hours, nights, weekends, and holidays as business needs dictate.
