Job Description:

This is a summer internship opportunity with the UPS Global Finance team, specifically within Finance & Accounting. This role offers a chance to gain valuable hands-on experience in a fast-paced, global environment.

Responsibilities and Duties:

The internship program is designed to provide interns with a comprehensive understanding of the company’s culture and operations. Interns will participate in team projects with high visibility and lasting impact on UPS.

Specific areas within F&A where internships are available include:

Global Accounting Center (GAC):
• Evaluating and implementing statutory fixed asset sub-ledgers for international locations.
• Identifying and documenting differences between statutory fixed asset guidelines and US GAAP.
• Coordinating the setup of assets in the fixed asset sub-ledger.
• Developing procedures and training resources for effective implementation.

Risk Management:
• Managing UPS Global Insurance programs (Property/Marine Cargo, Worker’s Compensation, Auto and General Liability, Aviation, Specialty Risk Programs, etc.).
• Developing and administering programs aimed at optimizing risk transfer and reducing UPS’s long-term cost of risk.

Tax:
• Establishing, managing, and determining tax strategies for UPS worldwide.
• Assisting with UPS’s U.S. corporate income taxes (federal, state, and local), partnerships, trusts, and excise tax filings.
• Reviewing benefit plan documents and establishing UPS policy from a tax perspective.

Treasury:
• Assisting with operational funding and optimizing the short-term working capital investment portfolio.
• Managing financial risks for foreign exchange, energy, and interest rates.
• Creating effective banking structures and cultivating strategic banking relationships.

Corporate Financial Reports and Plans (FR&P):
• Managing components from Corporate Accounting, External Reporting, Reporting & Consolidations, Corporate Planning, and Financial Information Systems (FIS).
• Assisting with challenges in different F&A areas, including accounting, financial analysis, reporting, and planning.

US Domestic Finance:
• Supporting areas like cost planning, revenue management, and payroll overtime.
• Assisting the corporate management team with financial issues pertaining to reporting, monitoring costs, reviewing production, and payroll.
• Researching and interpreting financial data to provide information to management.

Preferences:

• Rising college junior or senior, or recent graduate within the last 24 months.
• Understanding of basic financial terminology and concepts (e.g., operating profit/loss, net income).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
• Excellent oral, written, and interactive communication skills.
• Strong research and organizational skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and convey a positive and professional image.

Basic Qualifications:

• Must be a U.S. Citizen or National of the U.S., an alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. for this employer.
• Employer will not sponsor a visa for this or future positions.
• Must be currently located in the same geographic location as the job or willing to relocate yourself.
• Must be a rising college junior or senior, or recent graduate within the last 24 months.
• Must be available to work 30-40 hours per week.
• Must be located or willing to relocate to Atlanta, GA.
