SkillBridge Internship – Field Technician | Siemens

The Tone:
This is a SkillBridge internship with Siemens, a global technology company that builds solutions for industry, infrastructure, transport, and healthcare. This Field Technician internship offers active-duty US Military Service members hands-on experience within Siemens Smart Buildings, a division dedicated to creating efficient, safe, adaptable, and responsible environments. This role contributes to improving buildings and enhancing people’s lives. The TL;DR

• Team: Assigned to one of three core business groups: Building Automation (HVAC Controls, Lighting Controls, Mechanical/Electrical Services), Fire/Life Safety (Fire Alarm, Mass/Emergency Communication, Sprinkler/Suppression), or Security (Integrated Surveillance and Access Controls).
• Mission: To serve as the face of Siemens by diagnosing, maintaining, repairing, or installing electronic control systems for customers, thereby helping them save energy and money and contributing to a more sustainable future for the environment.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Customer Service & Diagnostics: Meet directly with customers to diagnose malfunctions within their HVAC/Building Automation, Fire/Life Safety, or Integrated Security electronic control systems.
• System Implementation & Maintenance: Utilize technical expertise to maintain, repair existing equipment, or install new equipment for solutions, performing commissioning as needed.
• Technical Consultation: Collaborate with internal engineering and management teams to resolve discrepancies in drawings or address problems that arise during service or installation.
• Documentation & Training: Complete comprehensive service work documentation and provide essential training instructions to customers for future ease-of-use of their systems.
• Client Relationship Building: Proactively recommend system enhancements to customers, establishing a value-added partnership that supports their evolving needs.

The Must-Haves
• Background: This internship is exclusively for active military personnel with formal approval to participate in a SkillBridge program. A high school diploma or state-recognized GED is a fundamental requirement. Candidates must demonstrate experience or applied knowledge and aptitude in technical systems, specifically supporting mechanical, electrical, thermodynamic, hydraulic, or mechatronic systems.
• Experience: Proven technical experience supporting a range of mechanical, electrical, thermodynamic, hydraulic, mechatronic, or other related systems is essential. Proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications is required. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, as well as the ability to interface professionally with customers and collaborate effectively with team members. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, possess a valid driver’s license with a limited number of violations, and be legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without requiring company sponsorship.
• Skills: Strong technical aptitude for diagnosing and troubleshooting electronic control system malfunctions, performing equipment maintenance and repair, and executing new installations. Excellent verbal and written communication skills for customer and internal team interactions. Ability to manage customer relationships and provide user training. Demonstrated proficiency in standard Microsoft Office applications for documentation and communication.
• Bonus: Preferred qualifications include U.S. Military experience at an E5 rank or above across any service branch (Navy, Air Force, Army, Marines, Coast Guard, Space Force, National Guard, Reserves). An Associate or Bachelor’s degree is advantageous. Experience in demand-side energy services or holding a Certified Energy Manager certification would be beneficial. Familiarity or direct experience with engineering HVAC, Building Automation, Fire Alarm, or Security systems is also preferred.
