Job Description

Quality Engineer, Field | Tesla

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Tesla, based in a location that supports domestic and international travel. Tesla designs and manufactures a wide range of products, with this role focusing on improving the customer experience by reducing product issues. The Field Quality Engineering team works to root cause product failures, collaborate on design changes, and implement controls to enhance overall product quality. This position is crucial for ensuring the reliability and performance of Tesla’s offerings in the field.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Lead problem solving: Lead cross-functional teams to drive process and product improvements through root cause investigations and effective corrective and preventive actions.
• Monitor performance: Monitor products’ field performance to identify and track trending issues.
• Analyze failures: Perform technical root-cause analysis of vehicle systems including Chassis, LV/HV, FW, and Thermal components.
• Implement actions: Drive the implementation of containment and corrective actions into manufacturing lines, designs, and supplier processes.
• Provide feedback: Participate in design reviews to provide upfront feedback, share lessons learned, and mitigate product performance, reliability, and manufacturability risks using DFMEAs.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronic, Power Electronics, or Electronics Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Experience: Applicable experience in a hands-on role such as Failure Analysis, Manufacturing, Quality, or Service, preferably in consumer electronics or automotive.
• Skills: Expertise in quality problem solving methods (e.g., fishbone diagrams, FMEA, process capability analysis, hypothesis testing, DoE, SPC); Exceptional problem solving, failure analysis, analytical thinking, and attention to detail; Strong interpersonal and communication skills to establish effective working relationships.
• Bonus: Proficiency in programming languages and tools such as SQL, Python, Minitab, or JMP is a strong plus.
