Entry Level Estimator | KCI
The Tone:
This is a full-time, entry-level role at KCI. KCI is an employee-owned engineering, consulting, and construction firm that designs and delivers world-class solutions across the United States. In this role, you will assist in developing detailed construction cost estimates and schedules for complex heavy civil projects, directly contributing to our reputation as an industry leader. • Mission: Assist in the development of detailed “production-based” construction cost estimates and schedules for complex heavy civil construction projects.
• Tech Stack: HCSS HeavyBid, Primavera P6, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), Bluebeam Revu, AutoCAD, MicroStation
What You’ll Actually Do
• Project Requirements Assessment: Thoroughly review bid documents, plans, specifications, and project scope to accurately assess project requirements.
• Quantity Take-offs: Perform detailed quantity take-offs for various project elements utilizing industry standard software.
• Cost Estimate Development: Assist in the development of detailed cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects, including material, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs utilizing HCSS HeavyBid software.
• Schedule Preparation: Assist in the preparation of Critical Path Method (CPM) project schedules.
• Site Data Collection: Conduct project site visits to gather necessary data, including measurements, sketches, notes, and photographs.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field with a rudimentary understanding of the civil engineering and construction industries.
• Experience: 0-2 years of experience within the heavy civil industry.
• Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint); strong communication (public speaking, presentation, interpersonal, technical writing); critical thinking; problem-solving; detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
• Bonus: Previous internships or work experience in the industry; working knowledge of cost estimating software (HCSS HeavyBid or similar); working knowledge of common industry quantity takeoff software (Bluebeam Revu or similar); working knowledge of Primavera P6 scheduling software; AutoCAD or MicroStation experience.
