About the Job

Commonwealth Engineers, Inc. is seeking an entry-level civil or environmental engineer for our Fort Wayne, IN office. This is an excellent opportunity for recent graduates or those about to graduate who are interested in pursuing a professional engineering career in key areas of infrastructure and water resources.

Responsibilities

As an Entry-Level Civil or Environmental Engineer, you will be an integral part of a project team dedicated to solving challenging environmental infrastructure problems for communities and industries. Our team-based culture promotes significant learning and growth, especially for new engineers.

  • Perform assignments applying standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Work under the direct supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member.
  • Execute sub-professional engineering tasks, including:
    • Field work
    • Inspections
    • Engineering reports
    • Permits
    • Construction engineering
    • Simple design calculations
  • Coordinate with contractors to ensure project alignment.
  • Review construction drawings and specifications for accuracy and compliance.
  • Contact government officials to secure necessary permits.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: B.S. in Civil or Environmental Engineering (a graduate degree is a plus).
  • Certifications: Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam certification is a plus.
  • Technical Acumen: Basic understanding of engineering principles and a strong willingness to learn new skills.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Mobility: Valid driver’s license.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to apply technical skills effectively to meet project demands and solve client problems.
  • Attitude: Positive attitude and an impressive work ethic.
  • Proactiveness: A clear sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet deadlines.
  • Detail-Oriented: Attention to detail and ability to contribute positively to the work environment.
  • Drive: Passion and demonstrated drive to achieve goals.
