Role Overview: Engineering Service Associate Intern

As an Engineering Service Associate Intern, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the efficiency and reliability of gas turbine operations. This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the development, evaluation, and continuous improvement of service methods, directly supporting our mission to accelerate the energy transition. You will collaborate closely with management, engineering, and other technical staff, gaining exposure to manufacturing, design, and service capabilities within a leading clean energy company.

Key Responsibilities

The successful intern will contribute to a variety of critical engineering service functions, demonstrating action-orientation, customer-focus, and ownership, including but not limited to:

  • Technical Analysis & Problem Solving:
    • Support engineering teams in root cause investigations, including analysis of fracture surfaces, thermal system modeling, and detailed failure investigations.
    • Develop and apply corrective actions to address nonconformances and identified root causes, ensuring system reliability.
  • Process Development & Documentation:
    • Collaborate with engineering staff to develop and author comprehensive work procedures for manufacturing and and repair processes.
    • Assist with report creation, cleanup, and publishing within Product Data Management Systems.
  • Data Analysis & Evaluation:
    • Perform rigorous data analysis for trending of operation, component life extension analysis, FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis), and component degradation evaluation.
  • Project & Vendor Support:
    • Assist and guide project management tasks, including reviewing progress and reporting out to leadership.
    • Support planning and design staff concerning product design and application of service products.
    • Contribute to the evaluation of vendors, assessing product specifications, arranging equipment/material purchases, and ensuring products meet quality standards.
  • Team Collaboration & Communication:
    • Actively participate in a team-oriented environment, demonstrating strong communication and collaboration skills.
    • Perform other such duties as may be required, adapting to evolving project needs.

Requirements

We are seeking a proactive and analytical individual who meets the following qualifications:

  • Educational Background:
    • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate pursuing a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in a technical discipline such as Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related Engineering field from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong analytical skills related to engineering problem-solving. Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
    • Proficiency in interpreting an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and dealing with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Software Proficiency:
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint) and electronic mail.
    • Preferred experience with coding tools such as Python, MATLAB, and C++.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal), strategic thinking, and organizational abilities.
