Job Title: Engineering Research & Development – Test Intern

Compensation: $22 – $32 / hr

About the Role:

As a Test Intern, you will join a dynamic team of engineers and industry professionals dedicated to developing and testing cutting-edge hardware and optimizing industrial operations. This role encompasses two main categories:

1. Electrical Development Intern:

  • Research & Design: Investigate new or replacement technologies and components, contribute to circuit design, and assist with component selection.
  • Testing & Validation: Develop comprehensive test requirements and execute hardware verification test plans for various critical areas including:
    • Board level functional testing
    • EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) validation
    • Certification Agency compliance (e.g., UL, ATEX, IECEX)
    • Functional Safety (IEC 61508)
  • Prototyping & Analysis: Perform programming, in-depth analysis, and troubleshooting of electronic hardware prototypes.
  • Documentation: Contribute to associated product design documentation and test reports.

2. Electrical and Firmware Test Intern:

  • Automation: Design and develop scripts to automate test procedures.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain detailed test procedures.

  • Hardware: Contribute to the build and commissioning of test hardware platforms.

Education & Academic Standing:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering or a similar field from an accredited college.
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Must be enrolled for at least one additional semester after the internship concludes.

Technical Skills & Experience:

  • Experience with Power Electronics or motors.
  • Familiarity with design capture tools.
  • Ability to work effectively with schematic drawings.
  • Basic knowledge of circuit theory and operation, including:
    • Microprocessors
    • Digital logic devices
    • Analog and/or DC-power conversion
    • Programmable devices (CPLDs, FPGAs)
  • Basic programming skills in languages such as C++, C#, Java, Python, or JavaScript.
  • Familiarity with engineering and enterprise tools like CAD, Creo Parametric, ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), 3D Modeling, SAP, Matlab.
  • Experience with industrial automation environments, including PLC or drives programming.
  • Experience using Agile methodology.
