Job Title: Engineering Co-op (6-Month Duration)

Purpose of the Role

We are actively seeking enthusiastic and dedicated engineering co-op students for a 6-month duration during the 2026/2027 academic years. This exciting opportunity is based at our Groton, CT location. We are also open to double block rotations, offering extended and immersive learning experiences.

The co-op student will be engaged in challenging job assignments directly related to their functional engineering discipline. These assignments are designed to be progressively more complex, providing an effective learning experience for the student while simultaneously delivering valuable intellectual and/or financial returns for the PCC organization.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

As an Engineering Co-op, you will gain hands-on experience by:

  • Collecting, compiling, and analyzing technical data, which includes:
    • Defect mapping
    • Variable dimensional data
    • Bellwether data
    • Process parameters on both development and production part numbers and processes running in the plant.
  • Correlating data for statistical analysis, graphing, and database files. You will also be responsible for formatting this data into clear spreadsheets, control charts, graphs, and diagrams to aid in comprehensive analysis.
  • Writing, issuing, and maintaining manufacturing work instructions. This includes observing and thoroughly documenting production processes to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
  • Providing crucial support for engineering and operations initiatives, including involvement in special projects and meticulous part tracking.
  • Applying principles learned in your academic studies to practical, hands-on situations, focusing on process and product design and improvement.
  • Taking ownership of performance goals and receiving progressive responsibility in process and/or product engineering throughout your co-op experience, ensuring continuous growth.
  • Identifying and recommending process improvements for specified projects to enhance efficiency, quality, and output.
  • Actively participating in regular departmental meetings, contributing to team discussions.
  • Performing or reviewing systems analysis, testing, and documentation for existing processes to ensure optimal performance.
  • Taking full ownership and responsibility for identified projects, driving them to successful completion.
  • Participating actively on project teams for assigned projects; analyzing improvements and new product or application developments, and developing detailed requirements and specifications with the team.
  • Working diligently within provided specifications to meet project goals and objectives in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Collaborating effectively with peers, project team members, and other departments on new product development, product line extensions, and product enhancements.
  • Performing other duties as assigned to support the broader engineering team and organizational goals.

Reporting Relations

The Engineering Co-op will report directly to an Engineering Manager or a Senior Engineer, providing clear guidance, mentorship, and support throughout the co-op term.

Special Skills and Physical Requirements

  • Strong computer proficiency is essential, including advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of related engineering discipline functional and technical skills.
  • Excellent writing skills and interpersonal skills are crucial for effective communication, documentation, and collaboration within the team and across departments.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Must be actively enrolled as a student pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in one of the following engineering disciplines: Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Aeronautical Engineering.
  • A minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher is required.
