Rotational Development Program Trainee (Electrical Power Systems) | Pacific Gas and Electric Company
The Tone:
This is a 12-month Rotational Development Program Trainee position at Pacific Gas and Electric Company, located in Concord, CA (hybrid). PG&E’s Engineering, Planning, and Strategy (EP&S) organization is focused on engineering the grid of the future through an integrated approach. The Electric Engineering department within EP&S is specifically responsible for designing all aspects of the electric distribution and transmission grid, encompassing system planning, engineering, resiliency solutions, and asset strategy. This program is crucial for developing highly capable engineers who will directly contribute to the company’s mission of delivering safe, reliable, and affordable energy to customers by leveraging renewable energy sources, traditional utility infrastructure, and cutting-edge technology.
The TL;DR

What You’ll Actually Do
• Participate: Engage in a comprehensive 12-month rotational program specifically designed to provide engineers with meaningful, hands-on experience within critical areas of electric engineering.
• Rotate: Complete up to two distinct rotation assignments, spending approximately six months in each, across various departments within Electric Engineering. These may include Distribution Asset Planning, Transmission Systems Planning, Distribution Planning – Distributed Generation, Distributions Operations Engineering, System Protection, or Grid Innovation.
• Contribute: Dedicate time to thoroughly learn about each assigned rotational department’s functions and actively contribute to its projects and ongoing success.
• Operate: Work within PG&E’s vast service territory, with rotation opportunities in one or multiple physical locations as defined by evolving business needs, ensuring adaptability and broad exposure.
• Enhance: Apply engineering principles and learning to focus efforts directly on improving PG&E’s large and complex network of electric transmission and distribution facilities, supporting grid modernization and reliability initiatives.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
• Experience: Must have received or be receiving a degree between May 2025 and July 2027.
• Skills: Reliable transportation for work purposes.
• Bonus:
• Completed coursework in Electrical Engineering with power emphasis, including Power Systems, Analysis, Transmission Lines, and System Protection/Substations.
• Experience with Python and SQL.
• Former PG&E internship experience.
• Demonstrated strong communications, initiative, and teamwork abilities.
• Work experience or internships in utilities, the power industry, or other power related fields.
• EIT Certification.
