Early Career Civil Engineer (Transmission Line Design) | WSP

The Tone:
This is an early career role at WSP, located in Phoenix, Arizona. This role is crucial for contributing to a variety of projects within the power sector, specifically focusing on transmission line design, to help meet client objectives and solve complex challenges as part of the world’s energy transition.

• Mission: Contribute to the due diligence, design, development, and construction of utility, industrial, and commercial scale projects, with a specific focus on all aspects of transmission line design for new lines, relocations, upgrades, and fiber optic additions.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Office software suite; Familiarity with MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads, Geopak, GeoSlope, ANSYS, STADD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS (preferred)

What You’ll Actually Do
• Data Collection: Assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from physical work sites, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, and other matrices for project development and design.
• Engineering Support: Perform basic professional civil engineering work, including conducting research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions to ensure conformance with applicable rules and standards.
• Technical Assistance: Provide entry-level technical assistance on various design requirements and operating strategies, considering the safety and functionality of end-users and infrastructure.
• Site Verification: Assist with verifying site characteristics and offering basic technical assistance on engineering, design, and construction issues.
• Documentation: Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems, drawings, and field/work site notebook/logs.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline, suitable for an early career professional.
• Experience: 0 to 1 years of relevant post-education experience, with familiarity in process and concepts for design/build.
• Skills: Excellent research skills with an analytical mindset, competent interpersonal and communication skills, proficient self-leadership with attention to detail and prioritization, and basic proficiency with technical writing and office automation software.
• Bonus: Engineer in Training Certification, prior internship related to the degree and specific engineering discipline, a minimum 2.75 Grade Point Average (GPA), ideal coursework in structural analysis, concrete design, steel design, soil mechanics, foundation design, and surveying, and active participation in local professional practice organizations.
