The Tone:
This is a part-time, temporary Design Intern position at A Igreja de Jesus Cristo dos Santos dos Últimos Dias, located in Salt Lake City, UT, with a hybrid work schedule. The organization builds essential teachings, resources, and services to support its global Church membership, dedicated to furthering the Lord’s work and sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. This role is crucial for enhancing the personal and professional experiences of the Intern, specifically by contributing to visual communication and design efforts that provide critical information and support to members worldwide. The company actively seeks to build teams reflecting the diverse perspectives and broad life experiences of its global membership.

The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Type: Part-time, Temporary (20 hours per week for up to one year)
• Location: Hybrid, Salt Lake City, UT
• Team: Publishing Services Department, working under general supervision and supporting professional designers and art directors.
• Mission: Help the Church provide essential teachings, resources, and services to members through effective visual communication and design, contributing to a professional design environment.
• Tech Stack: Adobe Creative Cloud applications (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop).

What You’ll Actually Do
• Design and Production: Assist with the design and production of various print and digital communication materials for the Church.
• Creative Support: Support professional designers and art directors through project research, concept development, and the execution of design tasks.
• Asset Preparation: Prepare production-ready files and design assets, ensuring they are suitable for review and subsequent publication.
• Visual Content Creation: Create and update layouts, graphics, illustrations, and other visual communication materials that align with project needs.
• Brand Consistency: Help maintain consistency across all materials, adhering to Church design standards, branding guidelines, and established styles.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Must be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and currently temple worthy. Currently seeking a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Illustration, Interaction Design, or a related field, or have obtained such a degree within the past 12 months.
• Experience: Demonstrated design ability through a compelling portfolio showcasing academic, freelance, personal, or professional work; possesses a working knowledge of core design principles including typography, layout, color, and visual hierarchy; able to receive feedback constructively and apply it to project deliverables.
• Skills: Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud applications, specifically InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop; excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills; ability to manage multiple assignments concurrently and consistently meet established deadlines.
• Bonus: Experience designing effectively for both print and digital media; familiarity with production processes and the preparation of design files; experience working collaboratively on creative projects; knowledge in areas such as motion graphics, illustration, photography, or UI/UX design is a valuable asset.
