Job Description

This is an unpaid, part-time Fall Internship at Circuit of The Americas (COTA), with compensation provided for major events. The internship program aims to provide students and those seeking internships with a hands-on work environment to learn about the live events industry and assist staff in all aspects of event production. COTA is seeking an enthusiastic, detail-oriented team player who can balance networking and relationship building with the attention to detail required for successful event execution.

Events + Hospitality

Job Description for Events + Hospitality Specifics:

The COTA Events + Hospitality Department is seeking highly creative, enthusiastic, and outgoing students eager to learn about the live event industry.
Work Environment: This position requires in-person/on-site work at COTA’s campus in Austin, TX; remote work is not available.
Schedule: Requires 3-4 days a week in office (25 – 30 hrs/ week).
Compensation: This is an unpaid, in-person internship, with compensation provided specifically for major events worked.

Internship Program Details:
Dates: Internships run in unison with University Fall Semesters.
Work Schedule: Work is scheduled weekly in coordination with university program requirements, totaling 25 – 30 hours per week.
Location: All work is in-person/on-site at the Circuit of the Americas Campus, Austin, TX.

Philosophy on Unpaid Internships at COTA:
COTA partners with several universities throughout the state, offering opportunities for individuals to gain experience and understanding in the industry.
• Unpaid internships are primarily for college students who require an internship for class credit.
• During the internship period, interns may be offered paid part-time employment to work specific events, motorsports, or concerts (evenings/weekends).
• Interns will not be paid for any other hours during the unpaid internship program.
• Upon completion, if the intern wishes to continue employment, they can review and apply to any open positions COTA has posted.

Responsibilities for Events + Hospitality Interns:
• Assist the Events + Hospitality team with the planning and execution of facility rentals and major races at COTA.
• Attend and contribute to weekly meetings.
• Assist with ordering, logging, maintaining, and tracking all incoming inventory for the department.
• During major races, interns will be placed in manager roles responsible for assisting guests and providing a world-class experience.
• Assist with set-up and strike for all events on property.
• Attend and help manage Bike Night, COTA’s weekly Tuesday night event allowing guests to cycle the track.
• Gain knowledge and experience in the planning and execution of large-scale events.

Requirements:
Flexible schedule, with the ability to work weekends and evenings.
REQUIRED EVENT DATES include (but are not limited to):
Bike Night: Every Tuesday 3:00 pm – 10:00 pm
FIA WEC: 9/5 – 9/7
Formula 1: 10/13 – 10/19
Peppermint Parkway: Dates TBD in November & December
• Ability to communicate effectively with employees and guests.
Attention to detail and strong time management skills are a MUST.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, deadline-driven environment.
• Ability to positively represent COTA while interacting with guests and clients.

Physical Demands & Work Environments:
• Ability to stand, sit, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
• Ability to lift and/ or move up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to squat, bend, twist, push/pull.
• Ability to stand/walk for long periods.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision and distance vision.
• Work may occur in extreme outdoor environments throughout the year.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud during events.
