Cost Accountant & Commodity Hedging Analyst | American Chemet Corporation
The Tone:
This is a dual-role position at American Chemet Corporation, a manufacturing company involved with copper and zinc. The role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of manufacturing cost data while also overseeing the company’s commodity risk management activities. This individual is crucial for maintaining and analyzing costs, identifying variances, supporting operational efficiency, and executing hedging strategies to mitigate commodity price volatility and protect company margins.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Cost Analysis: Maintain and analyze production costs by product, production run, and customer to support accurate margin analysis and decision-making.
• Hedging Operations: Coordinate the purchase, sale, and management of futures contracts to mitigate copper price fluctuations.
• Performance Improvement: Identify cost trends, inefficiencies, and anomalies by reviewing variances and partnering with operational teams to drive continuous improvement.
• Market Monitoring: Monitor market conditions and trends to identify opportunities and risks related to futures contracts, analyze hedge effectiveness, and make recommendations for adjustments.
• Accounting Support: Serve as a backup resource for accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general accounting functions.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
• Experience: Two or more years of preferred experience in cost accounting within a manufacturing environment, combined with two or more years of preferred exposure to futures trading, hedging operations, or risk management.
• Skills: Strong expertise in cost accounting, solid understanding of financial markets and risk management instruments, ability to leverage information systems and ERP data, and mathematical skills for calculating financial figures.
• Bonus: CPA or CMA certification.
