Cost Accountant | Vaco by Highspring

The Tone:
This is an on-site role located in Pell City, AL, with Vaco by Highspring, a recruiting firm that connects skilled professionals with leading companies. In this position, you will be placed with one of Vaco’s clients to play a pivotal role in their financial operations. Your contributions will be crucial for managing job costing, project financial reporting, and analyzing work-in-progress to ensure accurate financial oversight and strategic decision-making for ongoing projects.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Job Cost Analysis: Perform detailed job cost analysis across multiple active projects.
• WIP Management: Prepare, maintain, and analyze weekly and monthly work-in-progress (WIP) schedules.
• Cost Allocation: Reconcile project costs and ensure all expenses are accurately allocated.
• Variance Analysis: Analyze actual project costs against budgets and estimates, identifying significant variances.
• Profitability Tracking: Track project profitability and assist with cost-to-complete forecasting.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field, for an early-career accounting professional.
• Experience: 0-2+ years of experience in accounting, financial analysis, project accounting, job costing, or related financial reporting roles.
• Skills: Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, excellent attention to detail and organizational skills, ability to analyze large financial and operational data sets and present findings clearly, and strong communication skills for collaboration.
• Bonus: Experience working in a project-based environment, familiarity with ERP systems and project accounting software, and an interest in utilizing technology, AI, and automation to improve financial processes.
