This is a Controls Engineer Co-op position within the Information Technology Department, reporting to a Sr. Automation Engineer.

Summary of the Role:
The Co-op student will engage in increasingly challenging assignments directly related to their computer science or engineering education. These assignments are designed to provide an effective learning experience while also delivering intellectual and/or financial value to the PCC organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Co-op will play an active role in various stages of control system projects:
Design & Development: Assisting in the design, development, and implementation of control systems.
Collaboration & Testing: Working closely with senior engineers to develop and test control algorithms and software.
Troubleshooting: Participating in the troubleshooting and debugging processes for control systems.
Integration: Supporting the integration of both hardware and software components.
Research & Improvement: Conducting research and analysis with the goal of improving existing control systems.
Practical Experience: Gaining hands-on experience with controls and automation equipment.
Documentation: Preparing essential technical documentation and reports.
Meetings & Contribution: Attending weekly departmental meetings and actively participating in team meetings, contributing to project planning and review sessions.
Ad Hoc Tasks: Fulfilling any additional responsibilities as required or assigned.

Qualifications:
Candidates should possess a foundational understanding and specific skills:
Current Enrollment: Must be currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
Technical Understanding: Basic understanding of control systems, automation, and instrumentation.
System Familiarity (Plus): Familiarity with PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), HMIs (Human-Machine Interfaces), and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems is a plus.
Software Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Programming (Plus): Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++, Python, or MATLAB is a plus.
Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Communication: Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Adaptability: Eagerness to learn and adapt quickly in a fast-paced work environment.

Education and/or Experience Qualifications:
Student Status: Must be a full-time student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering.
Academic Standing: Must maintain a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher.

Other Benefits:
Compensation: Co-ops will be paid $24.00 per hour for a 40-hour work week.
Future Opportunities: Co-ops will be given top priority for future co-op rotations and potential full-time positions within the organization.
