FWSP Student Clerical – Community Engagement | Inside Higher Ed

The Tone:
This is a Federal Work Study Program (FWSP) student clerical position, published by Inside Higher Ed for the University of Central Oklahoma’s Office of Community Engagement. This department is dedicated to empowering students to become active citizens, fostering a sense of responsibility toward the community through service, volunteerism, and intentional learning opportunities focused on civic engagement. This role is crucial in directly supporting the operations of the Central Pantry, a vital on-campus resource providing free supplemental food to the university community, and in facilitating broader community engagement projects that invest in and give back to the local area.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Central Pantry Operations: Manage the day-to-day functions of the Central Pantry, ensuring smooth and efficient service to its clients.
• Volunteer Coordination: Schedule and maintain clear communication with student volunteers to effectively support all pantry activities.
• Donation Management: Collect, meticulously record, and organize incoming donations, alongside actively hosting donation drives for the pantry and other local organizations.
• Inventory & Storage: Regularly stock and assess the pantry’s inventory, and efficiently manage the pantry’s storage space to ensure availability.
• Administrative Support: Perform essential computer and customer service duties, including typing, filing, answering telephones, scheduling appointments, and assisting with Community Engagement data entry and projects.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently enrolled as a student, eligible for the Federal Work Study Program (FWSP) and having been awarded work study through the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships. During Fall/Spring, undergraduates must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours and graduates in 5 credit hours; summer enrollment requires the same minimums for FWSP or fall enrollment if not taking summer classes.
• Experience: Demonstrated experience utilizing Microsoft Office applications in an office setting.
• Skills: Possess the physical ability to lift boxes weighing up to or over 50 pounds; exhibit excellent written and oral communication skills; demonstrate sensitivity in intercultural communication; and maintain good interpersonal skills.
• Bonus: Hold a valid driver’s license; show initiative; be detail-oriented; demonstrate dependability; and approach all tasks thoroughly.
