• Mission: This person ensures accurate, complete, and consistent coding of complex Inpatient cases to produce quality healthcare data and optimize reimbursement.
• Tech Stack: Encoder, Windows based applications, ICD-9-CM, ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT classification systems

What You’ll Actually Do
• Ensure: Ensure accurate, complete, and consistent coding practices to produce quality healthcare data.
• Apply: Apply correct ICD-9/ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes and the newly developed and mandated ICD-10-PCS codes for inpatient procedure cases.
• Strive: Strive for optimal reimbursement through precise coding.
• Code: Code the most complex types of cases, specifically Inpatient cases.
• Float: Demonstrate the flexibility to float to different coding areas as needed.

The Must-Haves
• Background: High School graduate, GED, or HSED is required. This role requires a strong foundation in medical record coding, specifically including ICD-9-CM/ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT classification systems, along with adherence to the Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting. Certification as a CCS, RHIT, or RHIA is mandatory.
• Experience: Required experience includes coding through an encoder and proficiency with Windows-based applications. The ideal candidate will also bring 2+ years of medical record coding experience, demonstrating knowledge of DRG assignment and reimbursement regulations, as typically acquired in an acute care environment.
• Skills:
• Requires comprehensive knowledge of ICD-9-CM/ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT classification systems, alongside the Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential to facilitate effective interactions with medical staff, peers, management, and other hospital personnel.
• The ability to adapt and actively participate in frequent changes to policies and procedures is critical, responding to both internal and external requirements for health care data.
• Demonstrated capability to maintain accuracy, work independently, and resolve complex problems effectively.
• Bonus:
• Inpatient Coding (facility) experience in an Acute Care Hospital.
• Experience coding for pediatric cases.
